SPEED GUN PARTY AT KING EDWARD & ST ANDREW 3:30-4:30PM JANUARY 15TH

Speed Gun Party – King Edward Ave at St. Andrew St. (North-East corner)

Thursday January 15th, from 3:30-4:30pm

Join Vision Zero Ottawa and the Lowertown Community Association for a Speed Gun Party to draw attention to the recent provincial ban on Automated Speed Enforcement Cameras.

We’ll cheer on drivers who are sticking to the 40 Km/hr speed limit and boo those who are speeding!

Some signs will be on hand, but we welcome you to bring your own as well as noise-makers and dress in bright colours!

Community members of all ages are welcome to join us as we send the message that Speed cameras are a crucial tool to ensure speed limits are respected 24/7 and the safety of people who walk in the area is prioritized.

Did you know that 3 schools and a daycare are close to the previous speed camera on King Edward Ave? Not to mention the thousands of residents and many people cross King Edward Ave on foot or by bike daily. None of the provincial governments proposed traffic calming alternatives like speed bumps or roundabouts are feasible on an arterial road like King Edward, and it’s clear that signs don’t work. But the data is clear – with the speed cameras in place, over 86% percent of drivers were obeying the 40 km/h speed limit on King Edward before the cameras were turned off. Now that the cameras are gone, we know that’s not the case. Let’s check it out together!
