City staff: no to no right turns on red

This week at Public Work and Infrastructure Committee: City staff say no to having NO Right Turns on Red downtown.

When Councillor Troster asked to investigate having No RTOR, this is the ‘splain offered by the General Manager of Public Works:

  • Drivers might get frustrated and ignore the law.
  • Not enough people are being injured or killed to justify having No RTOR.
  • And they ignored that nearly 30% of people in Councillor Troster’s Ward don’t own a car.

The priority for the city: driver convenience over the safety of people on foot or bike.

City staff choose to ignore evidence that prohibiting RTOR in the core makes our streets safer and communities more livable.

What can you do?

Help Council and management move out of 20th century thinking by signing the Ecology Ottawa petition on RTOR, write your councillor to support, and make a delegation Thursday February 26th at PWIC.
